„Silence Alive. The Global Culture of Farewell“
At the invitation of the Goethe Center in Tiruvananthapuram (Kerala/South India), I am exhibiting my work on the culture of farewell, photographs of cemeteries and graves from various countries arround the world.

The exhibition will be on display outdoors in the museum park in Tiruvananthapuram from November 5 to 8, 2025. The topic: The desire to honour the dead is universal. We all want a dignified farewell. It is only the forms, symbols and rituals that differ. German photographer Michael Gleich has captured funeral traditions from around the world, including Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Chinese ones. It is important to me to show this diversity. Without judgement, without a Eurocentric view. I am fascinated by the fact that cemeteries are very often places of silence and loving remembrance, often green oases in the midst of hectic cities.
